Windmills aren’t as common a sight in the countryside as they used to be, and there’s still something about seeing one silhouetted against a lapis-and-pink sky that makes us reach for the camera phone. The same could be said about Tom Fruin’s urban sculpture at The Shops at Clearfork. Fully functioning and part of the artist’s ICON series, Windmill is made of steel and colored acrylic. Like the other works in the series, the public art piece in the Clearfork greenspace is designed to make viewers look at it and its surroundings with a new perspective. Fruin’s work can be seen around the world, but we think puffy white clouds on a summer day in Texas are the perfect backdrop.
