We know how the sun feels outside, but have you checked out the Howard Sherman exhibit, “What It Feels Like Inside the Sun,” at the William Campbell Gallery this summer?

The solo exhibition of works by the renowned contemporary artist runs through Aug. 5 at the Fort Worth gallery, 217 Foch St.

Howard Sherman’s When The Sky Told Humans How To Live

Teethmarks as Souvenirs

It features 10 of Sherman’s most recent large-scale, 70-by-60-inch mixed media works on canvas; one expressive wall assemblage; four wall-mounted pieces; and a collection of 16 small collages on paper. The works date from 2013 through 2023, and many of them “have never been seen before publicly,” the gallery said.

“The paintings are bold, colorful, gestural, witty, and layered,” the gallery said. “Concrete character anchoring the plot exemplifies his new techniques with spray paint that adds a distinctive layer of dimension. … Playing with structure and material, melding paper, canvas, and paints, in unconventional and energetic ways, Sherman’s work underscores his ability to navigate between abstraction and figuration.”
