Sometimes we feel like our grumpy grandfather and complain accordingly. Things are too expensive, too crowded, too busy. Why is it that as we age, our patience shortens and our list of grievances grows longer? Consider the traffic. What used to be a 15-minute drive — didn’t every trip around town take just 15 minutes? — now takes 25. As development along a popular stretch of the bricks is necessitating rerouting and warning signs to drivers and pedestrians, we are grateful Camp Bowie Boulevard is no longer used by horse-drawn wagons. It would really be a pain if we had to dodge manure and slow-moving equines. Once we get over our good-old-days syndrome, we realize that progress requires change, most of it for the better, at the price of a little inconvenience. Drive safely, watch for pedestrians and construction workers, and take an alternate route if you feel a little road rage coming on.
